[MrMonochrome's first impressions of the album]

I was literally about to make a thread. Thank God there's a Sam Goody not three miles from me. Got my coffee, got my headphones, gonna listen now.

The text in the booklet is so tiny. How the heck did you see all that?

Yeah, so Mythology looks a little different with the hindsight of Summer Sucks. There is actually some pretty intricate riffage in here, and a decided contrast between metal and gentleness that I think reaches a much maturer expression in the latter work. "Rise of Her Rain" is such a mixed bag, though. It's just so.. jazzy for the first bit.

I know. I know. Right?

Personal story time.

I got their first album when it came out, as it was part of the Book Rock promotion that BMB Records was doing. And it was pretty good, I could see myself listening to it more often, but it wasn't anything special, it wasn't anything nobody else was doing. It didn't even suggest to me that these guys would make a great album. Mythology was more like Showbiz or Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I don't think those are good albums. But I like to listen to music, even if it's mediocre, because music fills the void in my life.

And then Summer Sucks dropped.

I can't even put my feelings into words. But I'm a web developer by trade, and I wanted to do something, so I made Sunset Circus, and I set up this message board, because that's some way of expressing myself. This album merited a fansite, it merited a message board. Others need to hear this shit. Others need to know this exists. Those who have crossed paths with this... monster, this behemoth, this colossus of a record... those of us need a place where we can know that others like us exist, that this wasn't some fever dream, that the world really does contain this now.

Summer Sucks. Enough said, as far as I'm concerned. But I want, I need, to hear from others. Did you hear that?
